The Matriarchy of Sofatt

So, the empires have to be named after like stars or planets or something, so someone must have really thought their home planet was letting itself go

There was one in an old Earth map called something like the Fanatical Sh*t Assembly, if I remember correctly.

This would probably be a user one, I'm not sure what "filters" they go through on submission, but I'll watch out for it

Out of curiosity, how have you built the name generator? Have you just entered phonetic letter combinations and let it randomly generate words?

It's trained on data sets of some languages, e.g. I think Moby Dick for English, the bible for Swedish, something else for Chinese and something else for Russian. It then picks one of those languages and generates random strings. Dynasties have a "language family", so everyone will tend to have Swedish / English etc sounding names. I'm not saying it's fantastic, but it works :)

I wanted to do one based on medicinal drug names as well, as those tend to be super clear and cool sounding :)

Oh and it's just basically Markov chains, so A tends to be followed by G 5% of the time, etc ... With some hand tweaks so it doesn't freak out completely.

Whoa... Does this mean it spits out what it *thinks* is an English word?

Would that be what English sounds like for foreigners?

I'd imagine Markov chains wouldn't be that accurate, but if there's another layer to what you've just explained then I guess it would be similar

Yeah it kind of generates new words that sound a bit like english :) I can get more examples for you later, but it outputs things like:

    Engr
    Wouo
    Biouo
    Woui
    Mish
    Thingr
    Phin
    Thiasheng

They are passable as alien names, but don't much resemble english. I could spend more time on improving this system, and I do think it's fun :) But I probably will not do that any time soon.
